What is ‘Dawn of the Deadlift’?

Dawn of the Deadlift is a community & charity deadlift challenge which will allow you to test yourself in two very different events using the Deadlift AKA - the king of lifts!

The phrase "King of Lifts" most often refers to the deadlift exercise in the context of weightlifting and strength training. It's a popular saying that highlights the deadlift's status as a fundamental and challenging exercise that tests overall strength and power. The deadlift is a compound exercise that engages numerous muscle groups, making it a comprehensive test of strength.

EVENT 1 - MAX DEADLIFT

After a warm up you will have 3 attempts to lift the most weight you can (safely) with a decent break between each attempt.

Belts & lifting straps allowed (including figure 8 straps). No deadlift suits.

As we want this challenge to be as inclusive as possible (& also fun) we will be offering the following bars to be used for these lifts:

7.5ft 20kg Deadlift Bar

10ft 28kg Cerberus Kratos Deadlift Bar

30kg Higher Handled Trap Bar (for those not able to use a straight barbell due to injury, physical limitations or lack of technical proficiency)

Note: the same bar must be used for all 3 lifts & selected at the time of registration on the day to allow us to manage the smooth running of the event.

For those interested in some ‘healthy competition’ there will be a Male & Female WINNER of this event based on the relative strength reached with the heaviest Deadlift completed measured as a multiple of bodyweight.

Eg:

an 80kg person lifts 155kg then that’s
1.94 x Bodyweight

a 95kg person lifts 180kg then that’s
1.89 x Bodyweight

So the lighter person lifting the less weight would win because they have demonstrated more relative strength.

EVENT 2 - DEADLIFT FOR REPS

Once all athletes have completed event 1 we will move onto event 2.

This is very simple. How many deadlifts can you perform in 60secs with a proper lockout at the top (wait for the down signal!) & without bouncing at the bottom (that would be a no count) with the following weights:

Women - 1 x Bodyweight (rounded UP to the nearest 2.5kg)

Men - 1.25 x Bodyweight (rounded UP to the nearest 2.5kg)

Only 2 options of bars for this event:

7ft 20kg Stiff Barbell

30kg Higher Handled Trap Bar (for those not able to use a straight barbell due to injury, physical limitations or lack of technical proficiency)

Belts & lifting straps allowed (including figure 8 straps). No deadlift suits.

For those interested in some ‘healthy competition’ there will be a Male & Female WINNER of this event based simply on the number of reps lifted. Most reps wins!
